Still 71 days, 17 hours, 15 minutes and 3 seconds…. until vacation. I would become rather depressing when starting to count down the days so far in advance. Instead I try to prepare myself for my exciting trip, making me more inspiring. Reading travel stories of others, dreaming away while relaxing at the couch and looking at travel pictures or movies online, studying the culture and/or talking with people of that culture or people that have visited my next travel destination, this all makes me more and more exciting for my trip. I want to see as much as possible. I don’t want to return home and regret that I haven’t done or visited something great.
As philosopher Lao Tzu said “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step” I start my journey by learning about that country, its culture, its nature, etc. and start to make a list of all the sights or activities I want to see or do. When done, I start making my own travel plan. It is a lot of work, but it guarantees an unforgettable travel experience. There won’t be any day that I would consider less interesting. All sights I will see and all activities I undertake fulfill my wishes. I can stay as long as I want at a scenic spot, make time to have a drink at a local bar and meet interesting people, make changes in my travel plan and don’t feel like a tourist following a tour guide with many other tourists with same nationality. I want to experience how it is living in a particular country, learn from its culture, religion, its history and people’s lifestyle, talk with locals and eat ‘strange’ food.
Travel stories help to broaden my scope of knowledge for a particular country. These stories are realistic. They don’t make things better or more beautiful than it is in reality. They provide the pros and cons of cities, sights, lifestyle, food, culture, etc. Travel stories give you an idea of what to expect when visiting that particular country. With my travel stories I would like to share a little of the world that I have seen. Just as much as I get excited reading other travelers’ stories, I hope my stories will inspire you to start planning your next adventure!
